You, your friends and children can dress up as anything you can imagine. Over the years we have had Superheroes, Gorillas, Dragons, Brazilian Dancers, lookalikes and many more. People walking can add to the atmosphere just as much as a float. Our fancy dress category is split into three classes. Children’s Fancy Dress (Class 1), Adult Fancy Dress (Class 2) and Push & Pull Fancy Dress (Class 3).
Children’s Fancy Dress
This class is a great way for your little ones to show off their personality. Whether they are a Pirate, Peter Pan, Spiderman or maybe a Bunny, there is no limit. Let’s be honest – who wouldn’t want to be Superman/girl for the day? This class is open to all boys and girls under the age of 16. It will truly be a day they will never forget. Prizes will be awarded for this class.
Adult Fancy Dress
It is time to get your glad rags on and join in the party. Remember that Batman costume you were saving for Aunt Sally’s wedding? Well now is the time to wear it. The sky really is the limit with this category. From body painting, to punks, anything goes in our Adult Fancy Dress. This class is open to everyone who is 16 or over.
Push and Pull
Push and Pull simply covers entries where something is “pushed or pulled” – pushchair, trolley, trailer – a small float with no engine!!
Judging & Prizes
The judging for Fancy Dress will take place at the Procession line up in Cross Road at 1 pm prizes will be awarded prior to move off, Majorettes judging will take place on route. Prizes will be awarded after the Procession at the Lower Plume School.
Safety (Fancy Dress & Walkers)
Maldon Carnival would like to see everybody having fun and enjoying themselves, but our primary concern is the safety of the contestants. Children under 16 need to have a suitable adult with them at all times. (You can walk behind them with other parents and you yourself will not need to dress up – unless you want to!). Babies and toddlers should be in pushchairs or if walking need to be holding your hand at all times. Most of the safety information is common sense but you can view a full list of terms on our website.
